QUEEN SANDI.

 

Sandi moved to the Sunshine Coast six years ago and joined Red Hats in time to help put on “The Best Giggle” ever.

Sandi was born in Coogee NSW and wanted to be a librarian when she left school, of course this didn't happen  and she has worked in payroll for nearly 40 years now. Her love of reading covers many genres Murder, Thriller, Mystery and she is a founding member of the Reading Divas Book Club.

 

The E S & A Bank employed her when she was 14 and 9 months (what were they thinking?) and she stayed with them until she married.  Sandi has 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter, Evie Rose.

 

Since moving to Queensland she has completed a Justice of the Peace course and passed the exam. Her previous 20 years  as a JP in NSW were not recognised in Queensland.

 

Ask Sandi if she has enough hats and fascinators and the answer will be “of course not”. A glue gun, nappy pins and red flowers will see her trying to make something new to wear half an hour before she leaves the house.

 

Her favourite motto is “Just do it”, and organising is something she lists as good at.

 

In another life Sandi s fantasy was to be a Western Saloon Dance Hall Girl.

 

Hawaii and New York are favourite holiday places and we all know she is going to New York for a hair cut in May.

 

In 2014 she would like to learn how to read a crochet pattern...

 

Something you don't know about her....in the 1960's Sandi skated in the Roller Derby at Sydney Stadium.

Depending on the day, the weather and which badge she picks up first, we are never quite sure who is joining us when Lesley/Jackie/Adelaide books for a function..

 

When asked how she came to choose her Red Hat name the answer was quite short:  “all the 'B's: rhymed.   DUH!

 

LESLEY was very young when she started sweeping the floors at the local hairdresser, that was when she decided she would like to be hair dresser to the stars.  Learning to drive at 16 her first car was a mini cooper.  She has a son and daughter and is looking forward to becoming a grandma/nanna in 2014.

 
This is when her love of crafts, knitting, crocheting and sewing will come to fruition, expect to see Lesley carrying around her knitting bag with the latest item for the baby  inside.

 

Lesley is great at talking and selling and you will find her on Saturdays and Wednesdays on various stalls at Eumundi Markets.

 

Take her to a great Asian restaurant and give her a Marguerita and she will be your friend forever.

 

Lesleys motto should be “You can never have enough bling” however it is “In my (your) reality"

Vonnie (Yvonnne) had an epiphany recently and changed her Red Hat name to the one above.

We have no idea what caused the epiphany or what she was doing when it happened.

 

Vonnie lists her crafts as “sticking things on things" and wishes she could be more creative in the ways she does it...any suggestions please contact her direct.

 

Reading an Aussie novel and eating fish & chips in her beautiful garden while sipping on a good wine make her one very happy Red Hatter.

 

Going anywhere with the Sirens, especially if Lesley is driving, is her favourite Red Hat outing.

Just send an invite and Vonnie will be there.

 

Something you might not know : Vonnies first child was adopted out and she was fortunate enough to find him 10 years ago.   (Thank you for sharing something so personal)

 

Yvonne's motto is “Face your fear and do it”.

 

Yvonne would like to be a bushwalker with a very big 4WD, and holiday anywhere that someone else does the cooking for her.. could be Gympie or Greenland or Genoa

Thursday 27th February, Dinner at Mezze Bar

Thirteen ladies, including a couple of guests, attended the first Sunshine Sirens' dinner held in Mooloolaba at the Mezze Bar. It was a Greek tappas style menu and many of us tried a variety of different dishes and shared them.
It was a bit of a surprise when no cutlery appeared, and we used flat wooden sticks with a pointy end to spear and scoop the food. Saves washing up I guess!

Eight Sirens attended the crowning of Queen Maggie at an elaborate ceremony at Currimundi on the Sunshine Coast. Queen Nettie carried out the formalities with aplomb, watched on by a dozen local Queens, The court of Ma Ladies with Diamonds and Pearls, and an assortment of royal ladies from various groups around the coast.
Entertainment was provided by a Ukelele band and there was lots of dancing and laughter. This time our luck was in and three of our girls won raffle prizes. A lovely day out!

Seven Sirens a-swanning!!!

Queen Sandi, Vice Queens, Jan, Judith and Barb, along with Lesley, Carolyn and Yvonne donned their finery and tiaras to join ladies from several other groups to help Queen Cinderella and the Scarlett Ladies celebrate their 5th Birthday at Woody Point, Brisbane.

We car-pooled to drive down together and managed to arrive at almost exactly the same time (early of course!)

Queenathon 15th February 2014

Queenathon at the Ship Inn, Southbank

Queens and Vice Queens from around Southern Queensland gathered at the Ship Inn at Southbank at a Queenathon hosted by Queen Michelle of the Magnificent Mesmerising M'Ladies.
It was a lovely relaxed affair and ladies circulated from table to table catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.
